HABITS OF GRACE

You may wonder why we are spending a month highlighting God’s plan for the family. Many of the issues of our day stem from the issue of values and morals and who decides the way things should be. It would be easy to look at the cultural indicators and say, “Oh no, what a horrible week it was for the Christian family! Everything looks bad from this point on!” When in reality, I can’t imagine a more exciting time to be a Christian family than right now!

Jesus said, You are the light of the world! A city on a hill cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14). What did He mean by that? I drove into the city recently and was noticing the buildings. They looked okay. But it was night when I drove home, the lights of the skyline were brilliant and beautiful, even more beautiful at night than by day. That’s what Jesus meant. The darker it is, the more the lights of the city of truth sparkle.

Culturally, it is getting darker all the time, but spiritually, a Christian family living for God’s purposes will shine brighter than ever before. That is what we want for Christian families. That is why we highlight God’s plan and teach and encourage following God’s plan. We have such an incredible opportunity to make a difference through our families and why your family can be revolutionary.

This January, we focus on Habits of Grace

Put yourself in the path of God’s grace.

This study guide is designed to help you connect more deeply in the three crucial power sources for the Christian life: hearing God’s voice (in the Bible), having his ear (in prayer), and belonging to his body (in the fellowship of the church).

Created as a supplement to the book Habits of Grace: Enjoying Jesus through the Spiritual Disciplines, for individual and small-group study alike, this 31-day resource includes relevant Scripture readings, discussion questions tied to specific sections of the book, and prompts for applying each lesson to your everyday life. Rehearsing and reiterating key practices outlined in Habits of Grace, this study guide will equip you to stay focused on the gospel as you cultivate your own specific life-transforming habits aimed at keeping you connected to the grace of God in Jesus.

For a limited time, Desiring God Ministries has made this study available for download.

Help Support The Journey

Hear his voice. Have his ear. Belong to his body.

Three seemingly unremarkable principles shape and strengthen the Christian life: listening to God’s voice, speaking to him in prayer, and joining together with his people as the church.

Though seemingly normal and routine, the everyday “habits of grace” we cultivate give us access to these God-designed channels through which his love and power flow — including the greatest joy of all: knowing and enjoying Jesus.

The Journey operates by the generous support of Bethel Church located in Northwest Indiana where Steve DeWitt is the senior pastor, and listeners like you.

During this series, for a gift of $25 or more, we want to send you David Mathis’ Habits of Grace.
